A Queen Bee And Her Workers Landed On a Woman’s Towel In Cape May!
This is fascinating! Beachgoers in Cape May had a close encounter with a swarm of bees and their Queen. Dean Bloemer was at Stegar Beach on Tuesday afternoon when a Queen bee and her workers swarmed the beach. The entire swarm landed on a woman’s towel about 50 feet away from him. Mialy Shrady-Wolf was enjoying a book when she noticed the buzzing. “It was just like this black cloud of something around me; I didn’t know exactly what they were. Wolf said. “It was just the craziest thing. And once, I guess, the queen landed on my chair, that was it, they all just congregated there.”
A local beekeeper, Allen Brown arrived and safely captured most of the bees including the queen. Apparently the Queen had been kicked out her nest and her workers were searching her a new spot. Brown said it’s pretty rare for the bees to swarm the beach area because they typically nest inland. He added that the queen and her workers were likely blown on to the beach from the wind and were attracted to the smell of sunscreen. Bloemer said the bees were very docile.
