A popular Landenberg BBQ spot has expanded into Wilmington and is now open.

Summer might be on its way out but BBQ is a year round experience and Wilmington has a new restaurant for hungry patrons.

Great Big Jerk is now open in Wilmington!

The roadside BBQ spot is run by Tim Bolt who was previously the culinary director for Big Fish Grill.

“In May, Bolt took over the former Rosenfeld’s Deli location at the corner of 12th and Washington streets adjoining the Washington Street Ale House. He offers the same style menu as Landenberg including ribs, jerk chicken, pulled pork, cabbage and carrots, rice and peas, and pimento macaroni and cheese” according to Yahoo! News.

Great Big Jerk touts Island Inspire BBQ alongside bourbon, beer, and good vibes!

Their menu offers something for everyone. Chicken wings kick off the menu with, of course, jerk seasoned wings but spicy lovers can try their luck at the scotch bonnet pepper wings.

Crispy spring rolls, pit shrimp, and salads are also offered as appetizers. Hush puppies with scotch bonnet hot honey and pimento chicken dip round out the starters.

Brisket and shrimp kick off the entrees kick off the main courses alongside salads and that days fresh catch.

Half and whole BBQ chickens will run you anywhere from $13 to $24 and can be seasoned with Jamaican Jerk or dry rub and both come with mango salsa!

Great Big Jerk, a Landenberg BBQ spot which recently expanded into Wilmington, also offers a crispy chicken sandwich, a Jerk smash burger with WAM sauce, and fried shrimp Po’ Boy.

Sides include classics like rice and peas, cabbage and carrots, and pimento mac and cheese!

10 Hot Spots For Chicken Wings In Wilmington

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times.  There is a national holiday for just about everything nowadays.

According to National Day Calendar it’s time to honor the chicken wing because National Chicken Wing Day is on July 29th.

How fitting it falls on a Saturday this year.  I just wish we had some football to watch, to go along with the wings.

Anyway, with the day quickly approaching, I thought I’d find out where we can find the best chicken wings in Wilmington.  So, I enlisted the help of the friendly folks over at Yelp!

As most of us know, Yelp uses customer reviews and ratings to determine their rankings in a given location.  While I do agree this list is full of some delicious wings, two of my favorites aren’t included and I refuse to leave them out.

Of course, Hooter’s is my number one!  I have yet to find wings I prefer over these breaded bites of joy, covered in the hot sauce, nothing is better.  And my second favorite, also not on the Yelp list, are the wings at PJ Whelihan’s but that’s in PA, so that’s why.  Order them extra crispy & hot, they’re to die for.

Enough about my favorites (although you should listen to me), here are 10 hot spots for chicken wings in Wilmington.

Next up we can debate ranch vs blue cheese 😉
