The #1 Most Dangerous State For Memorial Day Weekend Driving Is Delaware
Believe it or not, Memorial Day weekend is almost here. This weekend begins an unofficial start to summer and the travel to the beaches will begin. Be careful out there, as we are learning Delaware ranks as the number one most dangerous state for driving.
I wish I was heading down to Lewes this weekend. It’s my absolute favorite beach in Delaware, but other plans were made, so that will have to wait I guess.
Memorial Day Weekend Driving – Most Dangerous Times To Be On The Road
In a study released just last week, from car insurance savings app Jerry, drivers headed to Rehoboth Beach, Bethany, Lewes, or anywhere else in Delaware, will need to be extra careful on the roads this weekend.
The most dangerous days, for Memorial Day Driving, over the long weekend are Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with Friday close behind. As one might guess, the night time hours are most dangerous, especially during the hours of 11pm and 1am. According to data from the NHTSA, the most fatal hour will be from 11pm – midnight on Saturday.
My mom always said nothing good happens after midnight.
Typically, younger drivers and passengers are at most risk with those in their twenties at most risk, and specifically men under age 40.
The data used in the study is from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They define the Memorial Day Weekend as 6pm on Friday through 6am on Tuesday. You can read the full study, and more about Memorial Day driving in other states here.
