Fenwick Island Restaurant Named As One Of The Best For Crab Cakes In The US

When you think about the best crabs in the country, no doubt Maryland will be the first place that comes to mind for most people.  But, don’t be so quick to count Delaware out for delicious crab.  We are neighbors with Maryland and our crab can compete.

Crabbing can be done all year here in Delaware, with the actual crabbing season running from March 1 – November 30.

Crabbing In Delaware

You do need to have a fishing license to go crabbing in Delaware and there are sizing requirements in order to keep what you catch.  According to Delaware Surf Fishing, hard shell must be 5”, soft shell, at least 3.5″, and peeler must measure 3″.  Catches are also limited to one bushel per licensed angler.

So, now that you know the rules for how to catch some crabs here in the First State, let’s find out where we can find some of the best to eat, in the form of a crab cake.

The team over at Food & Wine went on a hunt to find the best crab cakes across the United States.  Of course, Baltimore restaurants are included on the list, but so is one Fenwick Island restaurant.  How cool is that?  A small Delaware restaurant being called one of the seven best in the country!

Food & Wine calls a crab cake simple in their elegance. They’re made with just four ingredients, including bread crumbs, mayonnaise, mustard, and of course, crab meat.  Mix it all together and throw it in a pan for a delicious meal.

So, what’s the name of the restaurant making this claim to fame?  It’s Fenwick Crab House in Fenwick Island, Delaware.  Here’s what Food & Wine had to say about Fenwick Crab House.

We all love food. And in Delaware, food is serious business. Did you know that there are over 2.000 restaurants in the First State? But we’re looking for the Best Restaurant In Every City In Delaware. No matter where you are in the state.

To be one of the most popular restaurants in any town within the state is a big deal. There’s clearly a lot of competition. It’s hard for me to pick my favorite because of all the different types of cuisine. I may be able to pick out my favorite Mexican, Japanese, Italian, but to choose an overall favorite is tough!

If you ever wondered if your personal favorite is the most popular in town, now you’ll have the answer. There are over 70 towns in Delaware to choose from.  I used Yelp to find the highest rated restaurant in each city/town. So EVERY city and town in Delaware may be a slight exaggeration, but some of the small towns don’t even have restaurants.

I hope you’re not hungry!  If you are, you’ll be running out for a bite after drooling over this list of restaurants you’ll want to try.
