This news won't come as a surprise to those of us here in the New Castle area.  Any time we've posted about a sandwich or where you can grab one here in the area, this New Castle sandwich spot is always being mentioned in our social media comments as one of the best.

According to a USDA report, 47% of adults in the United States eat a sandwich each day.  This does include hot dogs, burgers and breakfast sandwiches, which will no doubt spark a separate debate.

Here in Delaware one of the most famous sandwiches is The Bobbie, an original Thanksgiving leftovers creation coming from the well-known Capriotti's.  But that's not the spot being called best in Delaware this go round.

The folks over at 24/7 Wall St went on a recent search for the best independent sandwich shops across the country, finding the best spot in every state.  They weren't looking for nationwide shops like Jimmy John's or Jersey Mike's, they wanted a list of the local spots.  So what sandwich stop in the First State did they say was best?

New Castle Sandwich Shop

Ioannoni’s Specialty Sandwiches is being called the best independent shop in Delaware.

Ioannoni's opened back in 2005. Owned and operated by New Castle, Delaware native Michael Ioannoni, Ioannoni’s leverages culinary expertise and old-world Italian culture dating back to the 1930s.

If you haven't been to this New Castle spot, it's time to take a trip.   A quick glance at the menu suggests the must haves are Ioannoni's roasted pork and chicken cutlet sandwiches.

Methodology

To find the best location in each state, the team at 24/7 considered reviews and ratings from a plethora of food centric sites like Thrillist, The Daily Meal, Eater, Delish and Yelp, among others.  For a complete list of all shops in the US making the list, click here.

6 Wilmington Restaurants Featured On Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives

Guy Fieri, host of Food Network's 'Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives' has been to Wilmington restaurants on several occasions.

Fieri travels the country visiting unique and locally owned mom and pop restaurants, typically recommended by the show's viewers.  While at each stop, he spends time with the local owners, tastes their signature dishes and takes viewers through a step by step process of how the dishes are made with the local chef.

If Guy visits a restaurant, it's a must try!  As he calls it, he's taking you to Flavor Town with each one of his stops.

Wilmington has recently been called a location for foodies, and we have so many restaurants now receiving national recognition.  Some for their sweet treats and best wings, burgers or fries.  Hotel DuPont was even listed as one of the best hotels in the United States for their food.  That's huge!

Have you tried any of these places Guy Fieri went to on his popular Food Network show? The Mayor of Flavor Town would never send us to a spot that wasn’t worthy of our time.
