34% of Gen Z Members Believe They’ll Never Own A Home
Gen Z is identified as anyone born between 1997 and 2012. Gen Z is the next up and coming consumer group, following Millenials. But the thought of owning a home is becoming less and less feasible for Gen Z members.
During the pandemic, the whole country saw an incredible rise in housing prices, as well as rent. Post pandemic, the houses are still valued the same, yet interest rates are much higher. According to Bankrate and Freddie Mac, 34% of Gen Z members never see themselves buying a home due to financial reasons. Furthermore, about 60 percent of Gen Z members correlate owning a home to achieving the American Dream.
In 2022, the typical first time homebuyer was 36 years old according to the National Association of Realtors, which is the highest age recorded.
The numbers of Gen Z members just doing without home ownership is increasing month by month. It’s due to higher interest rates and higher priced homes. With the generations to come, it will become harder and harder.
