Why You Should Nap On Thanksgiving
There’s a stigma around napping as an adult. Some may even think naps are only taken by those who are sick or lazy. Sleep scientist Sara Alger says we need to let that idea rest, in fact, she says go ahead and take a nap on Thanksgiving! According to NYtimes.com, the concept of needing to stay productive during the day is fairly new idea.
Anthropologist Matthew Wolf-Meyers stated that farmers during 1800’s used to sleep during the hottest periods of the day and then decide to work in the middle of the night. We now force ourselves to be productive through out the day and sleep through the night. Productivity is even expected all day on holidays whether that means talking to relatives, cooking the meal, or even just watching TV.
Taking a nap doesn’t make you lazy, really it could just make you more productive later in the day. And what better time to shake society’s expectations and take a nap than a holiday weekend!
