Barbies Help To Fight Children’s Screen Time During The Pandemic
Mattel has seen their biggest percent increase in Barbie sales in over two decades! Parents have said one of their biggest issues during the pandemic has been trying to eliminate the time their child spends in front of a screen. They have resorted to toys they may have played with as children. While Barbie has had many updates over the last couple years it is the familiarity of a trusted product that has gotten them more relevant than ever in 2020.
According to the Wall Street Journal, other areas of growth for Mattel have included: Hot Wheels, Baby Yoda, and also Uno Cards.
This Thursday a new Barbie collaboration with Elton John will be releasing. The doll will not look like Elton himself, but will be styled like him. Barbie will be wearing Elton’s outfit commemorating the 45th anniversary of his Dodgers Stadium performance from 1975. The doll will be retailing at $50.
