Salmonella Outbreak From Recalled Onions Expands To 43 States Including PA, NJ and DE
FROM 6ABC: The CDC said a nationwide salmonella outbreak caused by onions has infected several people in our area. The report includes 9 people in Pennsylvania, two in NJ, and one person in Delaware. Overall, the contaminated onions have infected 640 people from 43 states. So far, the CDC has not reported any deaths from the outbreak. The FDA has warned consumers not to eat any type of onions from Thomson International INC. This goes for red, white, yellow and sweet onions.
The CDC warns that onions sold at stores including Walmart, Kroger, Publix, Food Lion under different brand names could be part of the recall. Companies including Taylor Farms and Giant Eagle have also recalled pre-made that could be made with the onions. On Friday, the CDC told restaurants, “If you don’t know where your onions are from, don’t eat, service or sell them or any food prepared with them.” Consumers should throw away their onions if they don’t know where they are from.
