A Big Win For Delaware Pets Involving Punishment For Abusers
A sight no one likes to see is an injured pet at the hands of a human. The Brandywine Valley SPCA is constantly rescuing animals from all walks of life, including abusive situations.
There is no better feel-good story than seeing the transformation an animal has made after they have been properly cared for.
There’s no good reason or excuse for any living being to have to endure such terrible circumstances. It always breaks our heart when we hear about or see stories about these kinds of situations.
Luckily, there was a big win recently for Delaware pets involving punishment for their abusers.
According to WDEL, Delaware Senate has passed almost the entirety (2/3) of a three-part legislation package that protects pets from abuse in addition to protections already in place against domestic violence.
The court would be able to grant a petitioner exclusive care, custody, or control of a companion animal and order a petitioner to stay away from the companion animal.
The bill could actually help spot domestic violence in homes earlier, as animal abuse can be a warning sign.
According to the Animal Welfare Center, 37 states currently include pets in protection from abuse orders and Delaware has hopped on board.
We’re so excited to see protection for our furry friends. If you’d like to contribute to the BVSPCA to help them care for animals, some of which are saved from abusive situations, you can DONATE HERE.
