3 Year Old Lewes Boy’s Lawnmower Accident Results In Severed Leg
Every parent’s nightmare is some kind of freak accident happening to one of your kids. That’s exactly what happened to Zeke Clark. This 3 year old Lewes boy’s lawnmower accident left everyone in shock.
Lewes Boy’s Freak Accident
Clark was riding on his father’s lap and they were mowing the grass one day in June. Clark fell off and had become trapped under the mower. His right leg had been severed below the knee.
Maria Clark Deforrest, Zeke’s mother, says her husband “came running in screaming to call 911”.
Can you imagine? The panic that must have set in when this family realized the pain their young son must be in.
Jonathan Clark, Zeke’s father says he “experienced a rush of adrenaline” and flipped the lawnmower off of his son. He used his belt as a tourniquet while they waited for the ambulence.
Support System
Zeke has 5 other siblings that experienced the traumatic event along with him.
Cameron and Chloe, Zeke’s oldest siblings had grabbed his severed limb from the yard and placed it into a bag of ice in hopes it could be reattached.
Zeke was taken to Delaware Coastal Airport in Georgetown. From there, he and his mother were flown by helicopter to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Rockland.
Despite the pain and blood loss, Zeke never lost consciousness. At one point, Zeke turned to his father and said “Daddy, get up. We have to go to the doctor and fix my leg.”
Young Zeke is an inspiration to say the very least. Despite permanently losing his leg, Zeke was in good spirits while under the care of the Nemours medical staff. Surprisingly, he was scooting around as soon as he was discharged.
Although the family will have to mentally and emotionally recover from the incident, it seems that generally their spirits are good and they are coping with the support of each other, friends and family.
