Lewes Oyster House Gets Their Famous Salt From One Delaware Man
We’ve heard of restaurants selling their special sauces to go but this one is new! The popular Lewes Oyster House Gets Their Famous Salt From One Delaware Man.
Executive Chef Sean Corea finishes his seafood dishes, chicken and beach fries with this very special salt.
The Henlopen Sea Salt comes right from a local resident’s backyard.
Sean and a lot of other chefs use the Henlopen sea salt on their menu.
The salt comes from where the bay and the ocean meet which gives the salt a particular taste and texture.
Dave Burris, the maker of Henlopen sea salt, started making the salt at his family beach house about 10 years ago. In the first couple small batches he really had to hone in on the flavor.
Burris started giving it out to his co-workers as gifts around the holidays. Later, he decided to go full time with the operation.
During the height of the pandemic in 2020, Burris noticed that people started caring more in general about what they ate and where it came from.
He started packaging and selling the product locally. Not only does the Lewes Oyster House use the salt, but many other chefs and restaurants around the tri-state area are implementing it into their menu.
It is now available in about 25 stores and online.
The demand has grown and the product is flying off the shelves.
Tim Furlong of ABC10 covered the story and you can see the behind the scenes look, HERE.
