Some COVID Testing Sites Will Close In Delaware
A few years removed from the start of the pandemic, some COVID testing sites will close in Delaware.
Curative will close its COVID-19 testing sites in Delaware next week on December 28th. The company says lack of demand is the reason.
Curative will not renew their contract with the state for next year.
According to Delaware Business Now “Other Curative sites, such as the one located at the University of Delaware, have already closed. The last day for Curative testing at Delaware State Service Centers will be Friday, Dec. 23. Some testing centers will charge upwards of $130 for those without insurance.”
Home testing has become the norm over the past few years as the method is readily available and more convenient. The White House has also said that four free at home COVID tests are now available for the public.
This does not mean public COVID testing sites will completely shut down.
According to Bay to Bay News “Most of these testing sites will require a person to show their insurance card. Those without insurance will be charged. Often, medically necessary tests will be no charge, but non-medically necessary testing could cost $130 or more for people who are uninsured. The division said individuals should contact the site in advance to confirm insurance requirements.”
You can find these public testing sites here.
Bay to Bay continued on “The state reminded Delawareans to not go to a hospital Emergency Department just for a COVID-19 test. It said hospitals are managing heavy volumes of patient visits for influenza and other respiratory viruses and a COVID-test is not considered an emergency.”
The state suggest the following people still get tested for COVID:
- Anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19
- Everyone 5 days after being exposed to someone confirmed to have COVID-19
- Anyone preparing to attend a large gathering (1-2 days prior)
