New Castle County Under Quarantine For Spotted Lanternfly
New Castle County is under quarantine, but this time to try to contain the pesky spotted lanternfly. State officials have identified populations of the bug near Odessa. According to agriculture officials, the quarantine means people can’t move material or objects that could harbor the pest out of the quarantine zone without taking precautions to prevent the spread. Businesses are required to get a permit from the Department of Agriculture before moving materials in or out of the county. The permit signifies that those moving materials have been trained on how to spot the bug and its eggs. It is not necessary for residents to obtain permits. However, residents are should check for the insect when leaving the quarantine area. The spotted lanternfly is an invasive species is indigenous to China, India and Vietnam.
