People Are Coming Together To Clean Cities After Protests
It’s been a heavy week. It’s difficult to talk about but we have to have those difficult conversations. The protests against police brutality and racism have swept the nation. These protest come after the death of George Floyd, a 46 year old black man killed by a white Minneapolis police officer. We see the stories of looting and sheer violence on both sides.
While the photos of the violence are hard to look at, it is also important to see that a lot of these demonstration have been peaceful and that communities are joining together to rebuild. I saw this in multiple cities including Minneapolis and Philadelphia. So many people, many of whom have been spending the days protesting peacefully and fighting for justice and equality, have been coming out to help clean the areas that have been looted. Some areas were left spotless in a matter of hours.
I encourage you to be kind to one another. Sometimes we should listen instead of speak. The black community is mourning and we all need to listen and mourn together. Please take a moment to look at the photos of the people who are cleaning their cities and taking care of each other.
