Old Fashioned Milk Delivery Making A Comeback in Pennsylvania
In the midst of COVID-19, when grocery-shopping has become stressful and worrisome for many, a reminiscent childhood memory has been brought back to life in Pennsylvania; milk-delivery!
As take out and UberEats orders continue to surge, local dairies decided to reinstate local delivery to your doorstep. Pennsylvania is home to 5,730 dairy farms, many of which are located on the rural side of Pennsylvania, but they have now made their way into the suburbs.
Cow Belle targets the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos. Lancaster County-based Doorstep Dairy now carries milk and other farm products to parts of Chester and Montgomery Counties. Logical Living of Kennett Square does the same from Avondale to Downington. Even in highly urbanized North Jersey, Udderly Delicious has thrived by offering its home-delivered milk in those glass bottles we love and remember.
A spokesperson for Wawa has stated that third-party services like GrubHub and UberEats now offer milk delivery in 95% of its operating area. Wawa has found the surge in milk deliveries has actually outpaced the overall boom in home food delivery.
“My son and husband both commented that the milk tastes so much fresher than from the grocery store,” said Barbara Barnes, who in April began getting milk and other farm products delivered to her Radnor home for her, her husband and three boys. “We started with milk and eggs and our order just grew. Everything arrives as it should and the quality is good. After the virus is over and the kids go back to college, our order may shrink a bit, but I intend to stick with it.”
Barnes learned about Doorstep Dairy through Malvern’s community Facebook page. Since the pandemic hit, the decade-old company’s orders and workforce have more than doubled.
