Popular Rehoboth Bar Closed After 40 Years
A popular Rehoboth bar closed up shop over the weekend after 40 years of serving the community.
The announcement was made on The Pond’s Facebook page saying ““Greetings from The Pond! It is with great sadness that we are announcing that The Pond will be closing. Saturday, September 9th will be our official closing party, starting at 11 AM. All of us at The Pond want to thank EVERYONE for all your support over the many years. There have been many great times and so many friendships have been made because of chance meetings at The Pond. For that, we are very grateful.”
According to their Facebook page September 10th, yesterday, was their final day of operations.
Comments on these posts were positive but sad. Commenters said they were grateful for The Pond and thanked the infamous bar for supporting live and local music for 40 years.
Jalapeno Margaritas, their staff, and dancing were some of the highlights in the hundreds of comments.
Hot Sauce Band was the final live performance at the Rehoboth bar before it closed it’s doors.
The Pond opened in 1982 and was formerly known as the Frogg Pond Tavern. Their website described the bar as the Cheers of Rehoboth Beach.
“Originally known for its cold beer, burgers and the best wings at the beach, The Pond not only has great food, but promotes live music several nights a week, along with our own Thursday Trivia Challenge and Tuesday’s Survey Sez! And, with 16 big screen TVs, you’re sure to catch your favorite sports team” according to their website.
The Pond’s Facebook page says that future announcements and thoughts will be posted in the next few days. This may give us a look into what is planned for the building at The Shops at Sea Coast.
