Rescue animals are of top importance to the first state. It’s been proven now that Delaware Has Maintained No-Kill Status For 5 Years Saving Thousands Of Pets.

According to an annual report, 14,680 cats and dogs that have entered our shelters here in Delaware in 2022, were saved.

This marks 5 years in a row that Delaware remains a no-kill state.

Best Friends Animal Society is a leading animal welfare organization working to end the killing of cats and dogs in shelters by 2025. Their report showed Vermont joined Delaware and New Hampshire as no-kill states.

This means that every shelter in each of those states was no-kill.

That’s not the only good news. Other states are earning accolades as well. Rhode Island, North Dakota, Maine and Montana were each on the cusp. With a combined total of just over 300 dogs and cats to save, they are also on their way to earn no-kill status.

How can you help? You can save animals lives by choosing to adopt from a shelter or rescue group instead of purchasing from a breeder or store.

You can make sure to spay or neuter your pets. You can also foster kittens or an adult dog.

Lastly, if you have no room in your home you can volunteer at a local shelter, donate, and advocate for proven lifesaving programming for pets. 

Help Delaware maintain this no-kill status in any way you can.
