Watching the Olympics is a past time for many people. Especially, for the family of this Middletown Man who may be on his way to an Olympic Gold Medal.
Marquis Dendy is a U.S. Outdoor Track & Field athlete. This weekend, he took home the Gold Medal for the Long Jump.
Dendy’s jump was measured at 8.14m (26.7 feet) ending with a win to defeat Jarrion Lawson by 1 centimeter.
Is The Olympic Gold Medal Next?
Dendy won the title for the first time back in 2015.
According to local outlets, Dendy was named co-Delaware Athlete of the Year by the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association in 2015.
The 30 year old gold medalist grew up in Middletown and attended Middletown High School. He went on to the University of Florida where he he won the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in both the long jump and the triple jump in his final season.
Growing up, he was part of a family of athletes. Dendy’s father was a sprinter at high school while his mother Dionne was a collegiate sprinter.
You could say for this Middletown Man, it’s in his blood.
Athletic Trademark
Dendy has been noted for sporting a bucket hat on the field. After he made a decision to wear his bucket hat for a practice session last year, he decided to keep the hat on for competitions.
The hat quickly became part of his trademark after his performances started improving and he jokingly attributed it to the accessory.
If Dendy stays on this track, he may just be on his way to winning an Olympic Gold Medal.
