In a pretty scary event that took place on a what seemed like a regular Eagles Sunday, one Mummer stepped into action.
A spectator was having trouble breathing and appeared to be losing consciousness. A nurse seated nearby, Natalie Spencer, jumped into action to help the man.
Immediately, the girlfriend of Vincent Basile alerted him of the event. Vincent was fresh from the Mummers Parade and decked out in pink and blue. He had just strutted his stuff as a Cara Liom Wench earlier that day.
By New Year’s day, he may be just another painted face but Monday through Friday Vincent Basile is an emergency medicine doctor.
Upon reading and hearing about this story, I immediately made the connection. I know that brigade!
My husband, sister and I attended the parade in the earlier morning hours.
Upon arrival I ran into a friend who was marching with Cara Liom! Matt Kruc ran up to me with his daughter in tow and a beautifully decorated unbrella and said “Hey!”
I decided to reach back out to Matt after this story was plastered all over my social media feeds. He promptly got me in touch with Kevin Casey, captain of the Cara Liom Wench Brigade.
When we asked Casey about Dr. Basile, he responded “Not all heroes wear capes, some wear wench dresses at Eagles’ games.”
We couldn’t agree more!
Luckily Basile and Spencer were in the right place at the right time. Front line workers are really living angels that walk among us.
Thankfully they were able to spring into action and help the man before the paramedics arrived and escorted him to a nearby hospital.
