That’s not something you see everyday. There’s always debauchery during the Mummer’s Parade. Usually the stories that come out of the longstanding New Year’s Day tradition start with beer.
This time was totally different, kind of.
Dr. Vincent Basile is an emergency medicine doctor at Einstein Medical Center. Basile attended the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Basile was decked out in his pink and blue Mummers outfit when his girlfriend alerted him to a man in distress during the second quarter at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Basile ran to help, but first had to convince fans and the nurse attending the man that he really was a doctor.

Once he was revived, the first thing the fan asked was the score of the Eagles-Saints game. https://t.co/rIlwlTbfJY
“Hey, I know I don’t look like it, but I’m an emergency medicine doctor”, said Basile.
at the game and sitting in the same area.
Spencer noticed what was happening and heard Basile announce himself, and stepped in to help.
Spencer and Basile performed CPR on the man whose shallow breathing turned into no pulse.
Fortunately, the man woke up after a few minutes of CPR. “The first thing that came out of that guy’s mouth as he was kind of waking up a little bit — and I don’t think he remembers — but he asked what score the game was.”
Now that’s a true fan!
Luckily, the man was then taken by paramedics to the hospital and the rest of the Eagles game was essentially uneventful.
He returned to his seat and resumed watching the game, which ended in a loss for the Eagles.
Frontline workers really are angels and it’s a good thing that Basile and Spencer were seated in the right place at the right time. Otherwise, this story could have ended much differently.
