Melissa Etheridge, like every other musician, is currently sidelined from touring during the coronavirus pandemic, but the iconic singer-songwriter has found a way to maintain a steady income stream.

Etheridge recently launched EtheridgeTV, a subscription service that costs $50/month and features five different performances every week, including concerts every Saturday night along with special features like “Coversong Tuesday” where she’ll put her spin on classic songs from Prince’s “Purple Rain” to Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl.”

Per Forbes, EtheridgeTV has over 1,000 subscribers so far. However, if the $50/month price tag is too much or if you want to just pick and choose what performances you want to see, all of Etheridge’s weekly performance offerings are available a la carte for $10.

Etheridge lost her 21-year-old son, Beckett Cypher, in June from an opioid overdose, and she said the performances are helping her with the mourning process.

“It’s healed us, and it continues to heal us,” said Etheridge. “We keep growing. Each week we get a little better at the cameras, a little better at the Internet, a little better at the lighting. We’re just learning as we go along, and learning something new at my age is a real delight.”

Etheridge adds, “We knew we would have to step it up to have people want to pay to see it. Through our imagination, through our desire to entertain and inspire—this is what we’ve created. It gives us something to look forward to every day. We feel like we’re going to work, we’re contributing. And it also pays the bills. That’s pretty much the bottom line.”
