Former University Student Clay Conaway Found Guilty in First Rape Trial
Clay Conaway, former University of Delaware baseball player accused of raping six women from 2013 to 2018, has been found guilty of fourth degree rape on Friday which was the first of 6 trials.
Conaway could see many of his 20’s from behind bars. Today, September 27th, 2019, a Sussex County judge found Conaway guilty. Appearing in front of a jury, that was made up of 9 men and 3 women, the jury had decided after deliberating for less than three hours, that Clay was guilty. He was taken away in handcuffs and now awaits the next trial. The conviction comes with a possibility of up to 15 years in prison, with no minimum jail time.
Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings spoke on the matter saying, the verdict in the case carries a message that “no means no.”
A seventh trial has been already dropped, but the former baseball player still has 5 more to come. Conaway now awaits the next trail which will begin on December 2, 2019. Conaway has pleaded non guilty to all charges.
