The woman who Jennifer Lopez’s character was based on in her new film Hustlers, which debuted last weekend, isn’t pleased with the film.
She blasted J. Lo, while praising Cardi B, who only had a minute role in the highly-raved movie.
The woman, Samantha Barbash, told TMZ that she was contacted by producers of the movie but what they offered her to sign off her rights to the movie was insulting. She also said that J. Lo never reached out to her before filming.
“They basically stole my story. I wouldn’t sign my rights away. I wasn’t giving up my TV and film rights for peanuts. J. Lo doesn’t work for free, so why would I? I’m a businesswoman,” Barbash said.
“J. Lo portrayed me and she didn’t even reach out to the woman that she’s portraying. I think that’s a little degrading as an actress. The producer hit up my lawyer but it was a joke. I don’t even want to embarrass them. I have Hermes bags that cost more than what they wanted to give me.”
She also claimed that the movie was inaccurate.
“She basically defamed my character, which I was disgusted. There was a part that she’s cooking drugs on the stove with her daughter there. First of all, it’s just not an accurate movie. Without J. Lo they wouldn’t have a movie, to be honest. There’s no storyline. It’s just Jennifer. People are going to see the movie because J. Lo is on a stripper pole,” she explained.
She also said that J. Lo should have contacted her and studied her mannerisms, that she would have preferred Cardi B play her role.
“Cardi! Cardi! She did great. I loved her because Cardi was in the strip club business, and even though it was a different strip club than I worked. I think with acting lessons, she would have been great,” she concluded.
