LOS ANGELES, CA - APRIL 18: Inductee Geddy Lee of Rush performs onstage at the 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on April 18, 2013 in Los Angeles, California.

Geddy Lee is about to head back out on tour in support of his book, Geddy Lee’s Big Beautiful Book of Bass.

Lee’s book delves deep into the history of the bass guitar and features interviews with notable bassists including John Paul Jones, Adam Clayton, Bill Wyman, and Robert Trujillo. While Lee was able to interview so many bass players for his book, he said on Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown that there was one interview he wished he could have landed:

“Most of the guys I reached out to came through. One guy I would have really loved to have included was Paul McCartney, but he was not available, because there are very few people who are as identified with an instrument as Paul is with his Hoffner. I thought that would be a really nice addition to the Hofner section [of the book.] But we found a lot of very willing participants and a lot of very interesting cats that we could nerd out with and talk about the origins of the instrument and how they got into it.”

With Rush effectively disbanded following their R40 tour, Lee was asked what his future in music would be and responded with the following:

“That’s a good question and one I ask myself from time to time. [Laughs.] I spent a couple of years making this book, and I’m really happy with the results and really happy that people have responded so positively to it. So, I’m going to have some fun traveling around the world and meeting Rush fans and talking to young bass players for a while. And then, I guess, I’ll get home and figure out what the next step is…I certainly miss playing with my bandmates. I was a really fortunate human being to have such really great friends who were also really cool bandmates, and I was able to play with them for 42 years on stage. That’s something really hard to replace. I have really fond memories of that, so yeah, every once and a while, I wish I was on stage joking with those guys.”

Lee’s new book tour dates begin July 14 in Nashville. For a full list of Lee’s upcoming book tour dates and ticket details, head over to
