Better Odds Than Winning The Mega Millions

No one hit the Tuesday July 26, 2022 Mega Millions drawing.  What has better odds than winning the Mega Millions?  Keep reading.

That brings the jackpot up to an astonishing $1.02 Billion with the cash option at a whopping $602.5 Million.  Not the highest jackpot in history…just yet!

The highest lottery jackpot in US history was a $1.586 billion Powerball drawing back in 2016.

The next Mega drawing is this Friday July 29, 2022 at 11pm ET.

You know when the Mega Millions is dominating our culture when groups of employees buy hundreds of tickets!  Many people in Delaware are spending their beer money on multiple tickets, and when my wife (who rarely buys lottery tickets) buys 10 at a time.

We have all been dreamers this week.   For me, winning the lottery means paying off my kids college debt, paying off a mortgage, paying off credit cards, worldwide traveling and donating  millions to charities that are looking for cures for cancer and Parkinson’s.

But the odds of actually winning the $1 Billion really are not in our favor at 1 in 303 million according to Mega Millions.

A simple Google search tells us these things are more likely to occur (for entertainment purposes only):

  • 1 in 160 of being audited by the IRS (yikes)

  • 1 in 580 of catching a foul ball

  • 1 in 3000 of being struck by lightening 

  • 1 in 10,000 of finding a four leaf-clover

  • 1 in 11,500 bowling a perfect game

  • 1 in 12,000 golfing a hole-in-one

  • 1 in 88,000 of dating a supermodel

  • 1 in 662,000 of of winning an Olympic gold medal

  • 1 in 1.5 million of becoming a movie star 

  • 1 in 4.3 million of being killed by a shark

  • 1 in 11 million of passing away in a plane crash

  • 1 in 300 million of becoming President.  (Pretty close to the odds of winning the Mega Millions, but you still have a slightly better chance at being our next President!) 

    So this list is just for fun!  I really don’t know how accurate it is, but the point is; the odds of winning a billion dollars are pretty slim!

    But all the dreaming we’ve been doing sure is fun!
