The sites that Butler discovered, are slowly being swallowed by nature. Naturally, some of them are targets for vandalism.
Butler grew up in Musconetcong River, NJ. She developed a love for nature as a teen living with her family in a secluded farmhouse.
Through social media and the help of a hiking group, Butler made a hobby out of investigating forgotten structures.

She uses historic aerial websites to pinpoint where old buildings once stood. Then, she researches and goes off to explore and photograph the area.
You can see a lot of these places on her Instagram page.
Her book all started with her Instagram account. In the book, you will see all the places Butler has photographed.
