Wilmington Pep Boys Statue is on the Move
Where did Manny, Moe, and Jack go? Well the Wilmington Pep Boys statue is on the move to a new location.
The iconic statue of the three Pep Boys that stood in Wilmington for decades will finally get a new home.
According to Delaware Business Now the memorable busts that stood atop the roof of the Prices Corner Pep Boys will soon find another permanent spot.
The company says the three boys are safe and will be getting a new home very shortly.
The statue had been removed when Pep Boys shifted its focus to vehicle servicing. Care was taken when the boys statue were removed.
Pep Boys plans on building new storefronts in the future. The stores would focus on the latest trends including gearing towards electric vehicles.
The company currently has 1,000 locations and was founded in Philadelphia.
The new home for the statue is reportedly going to be at a Pep Boys Distribution Center.
According to RoadArch.com the statues have been around forever! They said “The Manny, Moe & Jack advertising figures were developed around 1924. The characters were modeled after the original founders. The company had 40 Philadelphia locations by the early 1930s and expanded to California in 1933. In 1990, the Pep Boys logo was changed and the caricatures were nearly dropped entirely. Fortunately, the company decided to keep the characters. At that point, the existing statues were altered to remove Manny’s cigar. ”
Upon a quick Google search you can purchase a little model of the Pep Boys statue for under $100. Trying to buy one of the iconic big ones would run you a pretty penny!
