Inflatable Pools Banned From Newark Lawns
If you are a Newark, DE resident then you may have heard that summer just got a little hotter. The city has put a ban on inflatable pools. The fun, easy and cheap way to keep cool is no longer allowed on your front lawn. This follows several code changes that have been made to address concerns about property maintenance.
According to the Newark Post, acting Planning Director Renee Bensley said the new pool regulation resulted from a situation in the Old Newark neighborhood. A neighbor complained to the city about a resident who had left a filled inflatable pool on their front lawn. The accusing neighbor complained that it was a hazard and a child passing by could drown.
Additional concerns included the idea that mosquitos and other insects can breed in pools that are not drained. While inflatable pools have been banned from front yards as a result of these main concerns, they are still allowed in back yards and side yards. Residents who feel they deserve an exemption can file an appeal.
These new regulations also address another issue regarding temporary storage containers like PODS. Under the new rules, such containers can only be stored at a property for 14 days without a permit. In addition, they cannot interfere with sight lines for traffic and they must be stored on private property, not the street.
The city expanded the new law even further to include furniture on front porches and lawns. This includes sofas, mattresses, building materials and other junk or litter. The fine for violating any of these provisions will be $100 but the resident will first be given a chance to rectify the situation.
