Jigsaw Puzzle Sales Skyrocket amid Stay-at-Home Orders
In an unexpected side effect of the coronavirus pandemic, a product that initially peaked years ago is suddenly seeing a resurgence.
Sales of jigsaw puzzles have gone through the roof since stay-at-home orders were issued, climbing more than 370 percent in recent weeks, puzzle manufacturer Ravensburger reports. Carol Glazer, the president of another puzzle maker, Ceaco, says her company sold more puzzles in one day last month than it did in all of December.
The problem with the reborn fad is puzzle manufacturers aren’t considered essential businesses, so no new puzzles are being made to replace the ones that are flying off the shelves, Glazer says. “How can you prepare for something like this?,” she adds.
