Frank Ocean Drops Two New Singles ‘Dear April,’ ‘Cayendo’
On Thursday (Apr. 2), Frank Ocean dropped two new singles “Dear April (Side A – Acoustic)” and “Cayendo (Side A – Acoustic)” where the reclusive singer sings mostly in Spanish.
Last fall, Ocean debuted the two tracks during his PrEP+ parties in New York City. Both of the singles are somber and melancholy.
On “Dear April” Ocean sings, “Dear April, the only face in the crowd that I know/Dear April, are you watchin’ him?/Are you watchin’ him dance?/Dear April, we were safe for a while/We were safe as the years flew by/If you could take two strangers/Lead them left and right/At a certain place and time/Like you took these strangers”
“No hablará de mí, ni hablará de esto/Lo que él quiere de ti yo no se lo negaría/Si esto no me ha partío’, ya no me partiré nunca/Si puedo soportar lo que siento, ¿por qué me ‘toy cayendo?,” Ocean sings on the chorus of “Cayendo.”
Ocean also pays homage to Sade and borrows a few lyrics from her 1988 hit single “Love Is Stronger Than Pride.” “I still really, really love you, yes I do,” Ocean sings repeatedly on the track.
“Dear April” and “Cayendo” are Ocean’s follow up to “In My Room” and “DHL,” which the R&B crooner dropped last fall. Frank Ocean is slated to headline Coachella in October. It was originally scheduled for April. However, the popular festival was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
