Demi Lovato on Coming Out to Her Parents
Demi Lovato has been open about being sexually fluid, but in a new interview, she talked about how she came out to her parents.
Lovato was asked by Andy Cohen about comments she made about starting a family, which led to her talking about coming out to her mother and father in 2017 and that she could possibly end up with a woman.
“It was actually, like, emotional but really beautiful,” said Lovato. “After everything was done, I was, like, shaking and crying, and I just felt overwhelmed. I have such incredible parents. They were so supportive.”
Lovato said her dad referenced her hit “Cool For The Summer” regarding her sexuality saying, “My dad was like, ‘Yeah, obviously.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, OK, Dad.'” Lovato also said, “My mom was the one that I was, like, super nervous about, but she was just like, ‘I just want you to be happy.’ That was so beautiful and amazing, and like I said, I’m so grateful.”
As far as starting a family goes, Lovato is uncertain when that will happen and said, “I don’t know what my future looks like. I don’t know if I’m going to have kids this year or in 10 years. I don’t know if I’m going to do it with a partner or without.”
