Returning to the stage Friday (June 21) night for the first time since his DWI arrest in the Hamptons, Timberlake told the Chicago crowd, “It’s been a tough week, but you’re here, and I’m here. And nothing can change this moment right now. I know sometimes I’m hard to love, but you keep on loving me, and I love you right back.”
However, footage of Timberlake from that Chicago show with his eyes widened and red made its way across social media, with many people thinking there might be something wrong with him. “Justin Timberlake looks coked up during his concert,” one person guessed on X (formerly Twitter). Added another, “The coke is coking. Eyes blinked, once.” A third commented, “Absolutely zooted.” A fourth joked, “bro his eyes [sobbing emojis] he’s seeing shit we can’t see [sobbing emojis].”
According to CNN, Timberlake’s arresting officer described him as “unable to divide attention,” adding “he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.” The “Like I Love You” singer rejected a chemical test three times.
Meanwhile, a bartender who was working at the hotel the night of Justin’s arrest confirmed to People that he did only have one drink, as he claimed. According to his arrest report, Timberlake told the police, “I had one martini, and I followed my friends home.” Another source told the publication, “If he was drinking more, it wasn’t here.”
The father of two’s “eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” his arresting officer previously said.
Additionally, the cop who pulled Timberlake over “was so young that he didn’t even know” who the 10-time Grammy winner was. As we reported, a source said during his arrest, Justin said under his breath, “‘This is going to ruin the tour.’ The cop replied, ‘What tour?’ Justin said, ‘The world tour.’”
After this weekend’s shows, Timberlake is scheduled to return to New York. Tour dates continue in the United States through July 9th before Timberlake takes the show overseas for a lengthy European run throughout the rest of the summer and into the fall. He’s booked to return to North America for more dates beginning October 7 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Shows are scheduled to wrap by December 20th.
Timberlake is due back in court on July 26th.
