Kelly Clarkson Didn’t Want To Get Married In The First Place
Kelly Clarkson talked with People magazine recently, and she discussed the fact that she never wanted to get married in the first place when she met and started dating Reba McEntire’s stepson, Brandon Blackstock.
The single mom of daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remington Alexander, 7, told the publication her thoughts on marriage. “No. I never wanted to get married the first time. Brandon had children and a religious background, and it was important, I think, for him. But I’ve never been that person. Because I’ve been through a couple of divorces in my family, I just don’t like to put any weight on it.”
She added, “It can happen; it doesn’t have to happen. For my kids, I definitely would never even think about it until they’re out of my house.”

The superstar talk show host said she’s not ready to start dating either. She said, “Dating sucks,” and it is “so awkward.” Kelly said that she was single until she was “like, 30,” and she forgot how “really good” at being single she was. She said that she told a friend that a potential partner would have to be an individual who brings their “own life to the table” and does not need anything from her. She revealed that it’s far more romantic to say, “‘I want you, but I don’t need anything.” Clarkson noted that as far as dating, she’s “really good right now” and having a good time without a significant other.
The singer and her husband, Blackstock, separated in 2020 and finalized their divorce in 2022 after lengthy disputes over custody and spousal support.
Kelly also told the publication that she has “always known that love is hard.” She explained that for her, love has always come with this “elephant in the room of sadness.” She’s known that “love is not forever.” She said she didn’t mean to sound depressing but thinks “we put a lot of pressure on that word.”
She concluded that sometimes love is looking at someone and going,” ‘This is not good for you. This is not good for me.'” She acknowledges that this is a hard thing to face. But when you do, she believes “you grow.”
