Lions, tigers, and bears oh my!

“Delaware is such a small state that it’s hard to quantify the data to determine exactly what the most dangerous animal in the state is. However, it appears that coyotes (an invasive species) have increased their range into suburban areas, leading to pet attacks and a lack of fear of humans” the website says.
I hear coyotes ALL the time but I’m not sure I’ve seen one in awhile. I’ll be honest with you…they are kind of cute.
The DNREC does provide more information on first state coyotes.
“Though Delaware’s coyote population is small compared to the state’s more commonly-found species such as red fox and raccoon, coyotes have been confirmed here by trail camera photographs, occasional animals struck and killed by vehicles, sightings from the public and hunter- and trapper-reported harvests” according to the DNREC website.
Coyotes will eat just about anything the DNREC also says, so they strongly suggest not feeding them.
In order to reduce conflicts with coyotes it is recommended that homeowners elevate bird feeders because the animals are attracted by any type of food and scraps.
They also suggest securing lids of your garbage cans if you are suspecting coyotes are near you. Other steps include keeping your pets in a designated area which prevents them from roaming free and shouting, yelling, or throwing rocks at the animals to discourage them from moving into human-populated areas.
Do not fully freak out however considering Delaware is recognized as the 49th state populated by the species.
