The Delaware Lottery Will Soon Allow Debit Card Purchases
You can already use your debit card to grab your lottery ticket in Pennsylvania and now the first state will follow suit.
According to Delaware LIVE “The Delaware Lottery plans to allow patrons of top lottery ticket sellers to use their debit cards to buy tickets over the counter. The lottery also will add a Sunday drawing to two of its popular draw games.”
Americans spend right around $72 billion a year on lottery ticket purchases.
The move by Delaware will allow up to $2.4 million to be added to the state’s budget.
The state’s Top 100 sellers can participate on the new initiative.
Venmo and Apple Pay along with other mobile payments will not be permitted.
The Delaware Lottery is now in its 47th year and offers a wide array of different drawings and games.
According to their website ” Delaware Lottery generates income for the state’s General Fund. The fund is a pool of money that finances a variety of state services. In this way, the Delaware Lottery helps pay for services that otherwise would require additional tax dollars. The Lottery—which has contributed $5.8 billion to the state’s General Fund since 1975—contributed $215.7 million to the General Fund for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2021.”
The Delaware Lottery remains the 5th largest source of revenue for the state of Delaware.
The Delaware State lottery also operates a program helping those who may spend more than they can on drawings and games.
