DOHS Is Offering Sober Rides This Weekend
The Delaware Office of Highway Safety is doing it’s best to keep residents safe on St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
St. Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest drinking holidays and weekends (if it falls on a weekend) each year.
Even if you’re not Irish, you celebrate it.
People everywhere dress in green, drink green beer, do Irish Carbombs, and partake in the merriment of a jolly good time.
But what happens at the end of the night? What happens when you’ve had one too many and you aren’t capable of driving yourself home?
According to Resposibility.org, Delaware reported 31 DUI related fatalities in 2021.
To decrease this number, DOHS is offering sober rides this weekend.
They have partnered with LYFT through their DOHS SoberLift program.
To participate, text SOBERLIFT to 888-991-2740, and they will send you a $20 Lyft voucher for the weekend of March 16–19.
There is a limited number of codes to be used one time per account each day in specific counties. The SoberLift code will be valid statewide from Thursday, March 16, at 7 p.m. to Sunday, March 19, at 2 a.m
Also according to ArriveAliveDE.com, alcohol is a factor in 12% of pedestrian collisions. Among fatal crashes, it’s a factor 53% of the time.
It’s never worth it to take your life or someone else’s into your hands. If you’ve had a couple, play it safe and plan to get a ride home.
Stay safe and have fun!
