Throwback Department Store Isn’t Going Anywhere
Throwback Department Store Isn't Going Anywhere
We’ve seen headline after headline of national chains closing storefronts everywhere. In a time where it feels like everyone is going out of business, this Throwback Department Store Isn’t Going Anywhere.
The Pennsylvania based company Boscov’s has marked the location for its next space.
According to The Patch, Boscov’s will experience a milestone moment later this year. The nation’s largest family-owned department store chain will open its 50th store.
This seems like a huge accomplishment in a world full of run-down, empty buildings.
Boscov’s is family-owned and is expanding with its first location in West Virginia. The spot will be the old Sears building at Meadowbrook Mall. It appears that this family is doing something right.
Boscov also explained why the chain is able to open new stores when most of their competitors are closing locations.
“We have the advantage of being a family-owned business. That means we can make decisions and work to please the customer, not the stock market.”
Boscov’s, was founded 109 years ago and currently has 49 stores in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Ohio. More than half of them are located in the Keystone State.
In Delaware, you can find Boscov’s in Wilmington, Christiana and Dover.
Being in business for over a century says something. It is proof that a good business model and maybe even a disconnect from public trading can be a great thing.
I remember my grandmother shopping at Boscov’s and even my mother sharing some stories of great deals she found.
It may be time for me to hop on the bandwagon. Especially, since it seems this Throwback Department Store Isn’t Going Anywhere any time soon.
Costco Price Tag Secrets Guide
I can’t imagine my life without Costco and my ability to buy in bulk. So here is a Costco Price Tag Secrets Guide.
We all want the best bang for our buck and that’s why we wind up at Costco!
You can grab flowers for the wife, 40lbs. of ketchup, and get your tires changed all in the same place!
I recently learned that Costco seeming disorganized is actually on purpose!
“Customers might not understand the reasoning behind Costco’s seemingly disorganized displays, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t any. The company frequently refers to their store layout as a “treasure hunt,” explaining that they group things at random on purpose in order to force customers to spend more time in the store and hopefully make more impulse purchases” according to Best Life.
Even if the store was organized I would still spend as much time as I could inside.
If you want to save the big bucks shop the outside or edges of the store. These places tend to have the best prices overall.
Costco samples are even unlimited! So don’t feel shameful going back for more.
According to Reader’s Digest and former Costco employees everything in the store will eventually go on sale.
RD also suggests “keep an eye out for a date that sometimes appears under the final digit of the price. That date represents the most decent mark-down. Use this date to determine if you should buy now, or wait to see if the price drops again. There’s no one correct strategy, as popular items usually sell out shortly after a price drop, while items less in demand will have to be discounted repeatedly before selling. ”
