New Choral Program For Older Adults In Wilmington
There is a new choral program for older adults in Wilmington. Anyone who loves to sing, can now join the Encore Creativity for Older Adults Program.
This 15 week program began last Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Wilmington. Practices are held on Thursday mornings.
It is a national program that began in the D.C. region and is now coming north. Their hope is to provide older adults with the opportunity to participate in a chorale ensemble. They hope to promote artistic excellence in a fun and supportive environment.
They mainly perform classical songs, pop music and holiday or seasonal music. The chorus welcomes all levels of experience.
Many of the participants have said the experience has been life changing. It provides a sense of community, purpose and self-fulfillment.
You can participate if you are available for practice on Thursday mornings at 10am. The program costs $190 to participate and ends with a concert on Thursday December 13th.
The power of music has been proven to be beneficial in the aging process. Music can stimulate the brain and improve cognitive abilities.
According to studies, “…the use of music received considerable attention over the past decades, both for cognition maintenance and for increasing quality of life of people living with dementia”.
Based on neuroscientific evidence, there is a simple visceral reaction to sound that affects and improves memory.
If you or someone you know is interested in implementing a musically creative outlet in their life, you can register for the chorale here: https://encorecreativity.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/encorecreativity/event.jsp?event=289&
