American Flags Adorn The Wilmington Riverfront
There are many ways to honor our service men and women so it’s nice to see American flags adorn the Wilmington Riverfront.
There is no greater pictures or scene than multiple American flags on a house, a path, or along a road. One of those scenes happens to be on the Wilmington Riverfront.
The flags are displayed along the Riverwalk thanks to the Rotary Club of Wilmington.
This annual event was designed to honor U.S. Armed Forces but has since evolved.
in 2020 the Rotary Club of Wilmington expanded the honor. Flags now honorf irst responders, law enforcement officers, teachers, healthcare providers and all other who serve, protect, defend and enrich our lives.
The Rotary Club of Wilmington invited its members to buy the flags to remember and honor someone they consider a hero in their lives. This years display now features 500 flags.
The display covers much ground. You can walk the flags from the AAA building to the far side of the Margaret Rose Henry Bridge over the Christiana River according to Delaware News Live.
You can see the display of flags through September 19th.
According to the Rotary Club of Wilmington’s website: “The Rotary Club of Wilmington is not your father’s Rotary! With more than 200 members, our club is an inclusive, diverse, hands-on community service organization committed to making Wilmington a better place by performing a wide variety of community service projects, fostering informed conversation about the city, helping members develop leadership skills and relationships, and engaging public and private sector leaders to encourage collaboration.”
Their website also dives into why they do this program. It says “From August 22nd until September 19th these flags will fly to honor all definitions of heroes in our lives. Contributions go towards our Community Service Foundation so we may continue to honor their service through our own.”
