Keanu Reeves Says He and Winona Ryder Are Married in God’s Eyes
Keanu Reeves has addressed the rumors that he’s actually married to Winona Ryder.
For the 1992 film Bram Stoker’s Dracula, director Francis Ford Coppola led the pair in a wedding scene that Ryder has long claimed occurred for real and is legally binding.
Per the Independent, Ryder said in 2018, “We actually got married in Dracula,” adding, “No, I swear to God, I think we’re married in real life. In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola] used a real Romanian priest. We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married.”
Meanwhile, Coppola backed up her comments, saying that same year, “In a sense when we were all done, we realized that Keanu and Winona really are married as a result of this scene and this ceremony.”
Now, Reeves has addressed their marriage in a new video interview with Esquire. Reeves, 57, reads the headline: “Winona Ryder: ‘I’ve been MARRIED to Keanu Reeves since we starred in 1992’s Dracula.'” When asked if the two were technically married, Reeves states, “We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests,” adding while leaning forward toward the camera, “Winona says we are. Coppola says we are. So I guess we’re married… under the eyes of God.”
Tell that to Reeves’ partner of three years, visual artist Alexandra Grant! Ryder has been dating Scott Mackinlay Hahn since 2011.
Reeves and Ryder have known each other for 35 years and starred in four films together, with their last film being Destination Wedding, which was released in 2017. “He’s always ready to explore uncharted landscapes of both character and storytelling,” Ryder says of Keanu. “He understands that in telling the story, you have to allow that human mystery to live.”
Reeves will next be seen reprising the role of Neo in Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix Resurrections, arriving in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22. He will also star in a fourth John Wick film in 2022. Ryder will reprise her role in Stranger Things as Joyce Byers for the fourth season.
