If you’re looking for a new read, maybe you’ll find yourself with a couple of the books below. If none of these books sound like your cup of tea, hopefully they sprout new ideas of what to read. I am an avid reader once I get started. I think the library is one of the greatest public services ever established in America. Thank you Ben Franklin. Just about every book here can be found in the public libraries. I am a huge fan of non-fiction, especially books that give me a deeper sense of appreciation for something or that offer a new perspective. I love to learn about new things and read about others’ lives. Hope there’s something below that interests you and offers the same!

• Just Kids by Patti Smith

  Just Kids is a memoir about the lives of Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe. Patti and Robert did not live the typical "easy life" but they never gave up. And they never gave up on each other, through many ups and downs, they always depended on each other. Possibly the best love story of two friends I've ever read.

• Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer

  This is a must read to appreciate nature and our roots more deeply. Written by a Native American, and practicing scientist, this book has opened my eyes to how greatly the indigenous peoples appreciated the Earth and cared for it since their birth. Highly recommend to everyone.

• Half the Sky by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn & The Long Haul by Finn Murphy

  I wanted to get a better perspective of the history of womens' oppression and womens' rights in our own country and throughout the world. This book opened my eyes and gave me a perspective I wasn't even expecting. I highly recommend this book to the nonfictional reader and readers of all genres. The Long Haul was a gift from a friend. After earning my CDL-A license and driving trucks for a bit before radio, I learned to have a deeper sense of appreciation for truck drivers and how the world depends on them. This true story is a great humbling journey of one trucker's life.
• The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom

  Mitch Albom is a phenomenal writer, as many know his most famous book, Tuesdays with Morrie. This non-fictional book is a journey of Frankie Presto, surrounded by failure but unlocks doors of opportunity due to the people around him.

• King Dork by Frank Portman

  This book is one of the few books that have naturally made me laugh out loud. It's considered a young-teen's book, and ranked one of the most notorious of the genre. But in reality, it's a clean, humorous book about a kid fantasizing about being in a band through school. Great non-fictional book.

• The Many Faces of Faith by Richard R. Losch

  Share

  The Many Faces of Faith is a quick and simplistic guide to understanding world religions. This book taught me a lot about the origins and the many misconceptions of different religions. Overall it gave me a good feeling in the end, having learned more about my fellow neighbors and how we're far more connected than different. I enjoy studying world religions from time to time to get a better understanding of my own roots of spirituality.
