Listening To Music Before Bed Can Disrupt Your Sleep
Some people believe listening to music before bed helps them sleep. It turns out this typically isn’t the case. Researchers from Texas discovered that listening to music before bed will likely cause “earworms.” Which means there is a catchy song stuck in your head. When something like words to a song are on a loop inside your head, it’s likely to cause a poor quality of sleep.
According to DailyMail.co.uk, results from the study show that people who have a song stuck in their head before bed are six times as likely to have a poor night’s rest. The results show that it didn’t matter if the music was instrumental or lyrical. In fact, some instrumentals were the most likely to cause “earworms.”
The head researcher, Michael Scullin states that most people believe music helps them sleep. Unfortunately it’s almost never the case. Our brains keep processing information even after we fall asleep. Even if we listened to a song too many times during the day, the lyrics or melody could be what ends up keeping us up at night.
