Are Younger Generations Dressing Like Grandparents?
There was an article that came out last week from the Wall Street Journal that has become highly controversial. The title of the article is, “Why 20 Somethings Are Dressing Like Senior Citizens,” which claims that Gen Z and millennials are taking fashion tips from older people.
However, it seems to be more of an appreciation for older generation’s style than an attempt to copy it. According to Independent.co.uk, the Instagram account @gramparents has a lot to do with it. The page shows older people wearing casual clothes and looking comfortable in their own skin. Today’s youth are certainly taking fashion lessons from those that came before them, however those seem to be more rooted in the 90’s and early 00’s trends.
The biggest complaint about Wall Street’s Journal’s claim was the fact they didn’t have any pictures in the article of millennials or Gen Z actually dressing like seniors. OR on the opposite end of the spectrum one could argue this has been a trend for awhile already, since thrift shops have been popular for quite some time now.
