Annie Murphy attends the 71st Emmy Awards at Microsoft Theater on September 22, 2019 in Los Angeles, California.

Netflix’s time-loop dramedy Russian Doll premiered over two years ago and despite news of getting renewed for another season, there hasn’t been much going on since their June 2019 announcement.

That changed recently, as production has finally begun since being delayed due to COVID. And they’ve just announced a huge addition to the cast, Schitt’s Creek star Annie Murphy.

No other details are out yet on the upcoming season, including who else from the cast is returning or what character Murphy will portray.

If you haven’t watched yet, the premise of Russian Doll is on Nadia Vulvokov’s 36th birthday, she gets stuck in a time-loop after getting struck and killed by a taxi while walking the streets of Manhattan. She eventually meets Alan Zaveri, played by Charlie Barnett, who is also repeating the same day repeatedly, and both of them plot ways to escape their fate.

Russian Doll is created by Amy Poehler, Leslye Headland, and Natasha Lyonne, who also plays the lead, Nadia Vulvokov. Natasha said in an interview that she’s been working on Russian Doll for seven years. Described as a “metaphorical bottoming out” by the show’s writer and star.

Annie Murphy will also be in an upcoming dark comedy series on AMC called Kevin Can Go F Himself, set to premiere this summer.
