John Fogerty Issues Cease and Desist to Trump Campaign for Use of ‘Fortunate Son’
John Fogerty has issued a cease and desist order to the Donald J. Trump for President campaign following his use of the song “Fortunate Son” at a rally.
In a statement he shared via social media, Fogerty said, “I object to the President using my song, ‘Fortunate Son,’ in any way for his campaign. He is using my words and my voice to portray a message that I do not endorse.”
Fogerty continued, “Therefore, I am issuing a ‘cease and desist’ order. I wrote this song because, as a veteran, I was disgusted that some people were allowed to be excluded from serving our country because they had access to political and financial privilege. I also wrote about wealthy people not paying their fair share of taxes.”
Fogerty concluded, “The fact that Mr. Trump also fans the flames of hatred, racism and fear while rewriting recent history, is even more reason to be troubled by his use of my song.”
“Fortunate Son” was played at a September 10 campaign rally for President Trump in Freeland, Michigan.
Fogerty is the latest artist to ask President Trump’s campaign to refrain from using their music during rally events. Phil Collins issued a cease and desist order last week following “In The Air Tonight” being used at an October 14 rally in Des Moines, Iowa.
