Brandy and Monica’s Verzuz Reached 1.2 Million Views
On Monday night (Aug. 31), Brandy and Monica went head to head during their Verzuz battle that was streamed on Instagram Live and Apple Music.
The Verzuz celebration was broadcasted live in Atlanta at Tyler Perry Studios, and the highly-lauded battle reached 1.2 million views. When the Verzuz session started the two singers briefly chatted about how long it had been since they’d been in the same room together.
“Listen, I’m excited. I’m excited that they get a chance to see us together. Believe it or not, it’s our first time in the same room for eight years,” Monica said to Brandy. “Eight or nine years. That’s too long,” Brandy added.
“Well, we’re changing it tonight,” Monica said. “We’re changing it tonight because I feel like we have so much to give and we have so many songs that we can share and I feel like so many people will be so happy and elated that we’re together,” Brandy said before Monica “took a moment” to acknowledge Chadwick Boseman.
“He was just a King. Hero,” Brandy said of the late actor who recently succumbed to colon cancer. Before the battle began Kamala Harris virtually visited the set and spoke about voting before telling the two R&B veterans how she was fond of them. “I’m just a huge fan of both of you,” Harris said.
Brandy went first playing her 2002 single “What About Us,” from her third studio album Full Moon. That was followed by Monica’s 2010 Missy Elliott-produced single “Everything To Me,” from her sixth studio album Still Standing.
