Artists Paint Aerosmith Lyrics On One-Way Sidewalks to Enforce Social Distancing
Two local artists in the English town of Gloucestershire have painted lyrics from the Aerosmith classic “Walk This Way” on various one-way sidewalks to help enforce local social distancing guidelines.
Per Gloucestershire Live, Russell Haines and Rob Mackie have painted a number of arrows on the narrow walkways of their town after signs that were put up by Gloucester City Council and Gloucestershire County Council were stolen or vandalized. The arrows feature the lyric from the song’s chorus: “She told me to walk this way/Talk this way/Walk this way/Take this way/Walk this way/Ooh like this.”
Haines said in a statement, “I just thought that people don’t like being told what to do. It’s much better to engage with them in different ways, maybe make them laugh. I think the [Gloucestershire County] council should also engage more with local people to come up with ideas to think differently about things.”
Haines added, “At the moment especially artists, musicians, actors, etc, are finding work difficult to come by. Why not use them in different ways to get messages across? It’s a good time to try out new ideas.”
