Republic Records, which is home to artists like Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Drake, and The Weeknd, has announced that they are removing the term "urban" from their company verbiage.

In an Instagram post captioned, "#WeUseOurVoice, Use Yours," the label wrote, "Effective immediately, Republic Records will remove 'URBAN' from our verbiage in describing departments, employee titles, and music genres."

They add, "We encourage the rest of the music industry to follow suit as it is important to shape the future of what we want it to look like, and not adhere to the outdated structures of the past."

Republic Records has been very vocal in supporting the black community since the death of George Floyd. They have used their platform to promote "Black Out Tuesday," to educate followers to vote, and to support protestors.
