Prince To Receive All-Star Grammy Tribute
Prince is slated to receive an all-star tribute following this year’s Grammy Awards. Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Usher will perform during the special tribute concert for the Purple One, as Rolling Stone reports.
Entitled Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince, the tribute will be held on January 28, two days after the Grammys, and it’ll take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The tribute is slated to be broadcasted in April.
Prince’s longtime percussionist and friend, Sheila E. will serve as the musical director of the concert alongside Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
In addition to performances by Keys, Legend, and Usher, H.E.R., Common, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Gary Clark Jr., Beck, and Foo Fighters will also performing.
Sheila E. told Rolling Stone that she and her band will be supporting the majority of the performers throughout the night while also gracing the stage with her own set. She’s slated to play her single “The Glamorous Life” that Prince penned and Prince’s 1985 song “America.”
“I was very honored to be able to do this for so many reasons, but to be able to help celebrate the life of a dear friend and be a part of this and be musical director is awesome,” Sheila E. said.
“Prince. The Purple One. His Royal Badness — regardless of how you identify him, he is indisputably one of the greatest musical virtuosos of all time. With his subversive attitude and commanding nature, he straddled musical genres and created electrifying music that was bursting with character. He continues to serve as an inspirational icon for artists and fans worldwide, and we are so honored to pay tribute to his legacy,” Recording Academy President/CEO Deborah Dugan said, in a statement.
Other artists such as Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and Motown have also received the “Grammy Salute.”
